I'm India Barnes, an online K-12 Reading Specialist and former classroom teacher with a passion for helping students become confident, capable readers. Throughout my career, I've worked with students from a wide range of backgrounds and learning needs. I've seen firsthand the difference that explicit, systematic instruction can make. Those experiences continue to shape the way I teach and the way I support every student who logs into a lesson.
My Approach to Reading Instruction
I believe literacy is a right, not a privilege. Every child deserves reading instruction that is explicit, systematic, and tailored to their individual learning needs. I use Orton-Gillingham principles along with the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy, and other evidence-based instructional practices to create personalized lessons for each student. Instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach, I use my training, experience, and ongoing professional learning to make thoughtful instructional decisions based on each learner's strengths, needs, and progress.
